Summer sermon series July - August

Summer sermon series July - August

e-note from Pastor DJ

Daniel del Rosario June 29, 2020

Church family and friends,

I pray that you had a good weekend. I want to begin by apologizing for our technical difficulties regarding our worship service yesterday. While we are grateful for the gift of technology during this pandemic, we sometimes hit bumps in our technical road.

Some of our leaders on church council leadership are beginning to work on our communication and phases when the times comes for us to begin to open back up. As you probably can guess, these phased openings won’t happen all at once. Our aim is to provide you with a clear communication guide and set expectations as clearly as possible. Our church council chair Todd Gillies will be spearheading our efforts.

Some folks have been asking about our budget and giving. This week, we will be sending a more detailed communication of the budget that our church council has approved and will move us forward until December 31, 2020. Thank you all for your continued generosity to our church and the many ways you support our ministries. You can give online through our website www.fwumc.org or by mailing your check to our church address. Our church mail is being routed to a post office box that is secure.

Starting this Sunday we will begin an exciting new sermon series.

“Summer Mixtape Sermon Series”

Every summer has a soundtrack. The music that defines the season and comes to us through our speakers on constant repeat. These days we might call it a playlist, but this year we’re going vintage with a summer mixtape. You know the concept: put together a selection of your current favorites, write a personal note and give it to someone to enjoy. This summer, our weekend messages will be based on handpicked Scriptures that move us and fit the season we’re in. We think they’ll have something to say to you too.
We are excited to announce that six United Methodist Churches are working in concert to provide a custom Summer Mixtape. From July through the end of August each of these preachers will share a preach and those sermons will be shared across all six faith communities. Each church will utilize this Summer Mixtape in their own way for their specific communities.
This is a joint production from the following churches and pastors.
Shalom Agtarap | she/her/hers- Multicultural Hub at First United Methodist Church of Tacoma
D J del Rosario | he/him/his - Federal Way United Methodist Church
Geoffrey Helton | he/him/his- Audubon church
Karen Yokota Love | she/her/hers- Blaine Memorial UMC
Elizabeth Ingram Schindler | she/her/hers - Faith Church
Jeremy Smith | he/him/his - First Church (First United Methodist Church, Seattle)

Top ten things I’ve learned leading a church during a pandemic.

1.Audio matters.

2. Content matters even more.

3. Church isn’t about entertaining people.

Prayer for the day

“We want to pray for unity, compassion, empathy and grace to cover all of us.

And we acknowledge God…These aspirational hopes…Must first begin with lament, repentance and reconciliation.”

For those who can't see the way forward

For those who don't know the way today

For those who are filled with hope each day. And for those who are filled with dread. And for those who feel both hope and dread in passing minutes

Let’s not forget that we while COVID-19 exists, systems of injustice still exist too. The need for the hands and feet of Christ is still very relevant.
