Embracing Imperfection: A Journey Through Palm Sunday to Holy Week
Dear Church Family,
As we approach Palm Sunday, the narrative of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem beckons us to reflect deeply on the theme of imperfection restored. Drawing inspiration from John 12:12-16, we are invited to journey through the symbolism of palm branches strewn before Jesus, recognizing the imperfect yet profound beauty of his mission.
In our sermon this Palm Sunday, we will explore the layers of meaning behind Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. We will unpack how his embrace of imperfection and humanity resonates with our own lives and ministries today. Just as the crowds welcomed Jesus with open arms, let us also open our hearts to receive the transformative power of his love.
As we anticipate the beginning of Holy Week on March 24th, we are reminded of the sacred journey ahead. Holy Week presents us with a precious opportunity to embody the lessons of forgiveness exemplified in Peter’s interaction with Jesus. It is a time to meditate on the ultimate act of love and forgiveness displayed on the cross, where Jesus extended grace even to those who betrayed him.
Throughout Holy Week, let us immerse ourselves in deep reflection and mourning, acknowledging the gravity of Jesus’ sacrifice. Yet, amidst the solemnity, there is a thread of hope that weaves through the narrative – the promise of resurrection and new life. It is a reminder that forgiveness has the power to resurrect that which was broken, breathing new life into our weary souls.
As we prepare to embark on this sacred journey, may we open our hearts to the profound transformation that forgiveness offers. Let us embrace our imperfections, knowing that it is through our brokenness that the light of Christ shines most brightly. Together, let us walk hand in hand, finding solace and strength in the boundless love of our Savior.
I eagerly anticipate our exploration of these themes together this weekend, as we journey deeper into the heart of Holy Week. May this season be a time of renewal, healing, and boundless grace for us all.
A Special E-Reader Devotional from Sanctified Art
We're blessed to have a special e-reader version of this year’s Lent devotional, courtesy of our friends at A Sanctified Art. We will also have printed versions available at church for your convenience. You can access it by sending me an email and I’ll send you the link DJ@revdj.com. Please remember, to honor and protect their creative work, refrain from sharing this link on social media or forwarding it outside our church community.
As we continue our journey through the "Wandering Heart" series, let's keep our hearts and minds open to the lessons of faith, identity, and discipleship that the Lord reveals to us through the lives of His disciples. Peter's story is our story—a journey of faith, faltering, and finding our foundation in Christ.

New Church Board Leadership
Last year, we introduced a single board governance structure, with members elected by our church community. This board plays a crucial role in guiding the mission, vision, and purpose of our church, overseeing crucial areas like finance, human resources, and trusteeship. In upcoming issues, we will be highlighting individual members of the Church Board to help you get to know the people serving our church in these important roles. Should you have any questions or thoughts for our Church Board, feel free to reach out at ChurchBoard@fwumc.org.
